Burleigh Singleton serves as the Managing Partner of the firm’s Atlanta office. Mr. Singleton represents clients in a variety of commercial disputes, including commercial real estate matters, cross-border litigation, partnership disputes, business torts, and contract claims. Mr. Singleton focuses on trial work and has served as lead counsel in lawsuits and arbitrations in Georgia and throughout the United States.

While in law school, Mr. Singleton served as an editor on the Yale Law and Policy Review and was a Thurman Arnold Prize Finalist in the Morris Tyler Moot Court of Appeals. He was recognized in 2018 and 2019 for Construction Law and Commercial Litigation and again in 2025 and the five years immediately preceding for Commercial Litigation, Construction Law, and Construction Litigation by The Best Lawyers in America®. What advice would you offer to new attorneys interested in your field?

For new attorneys in litigation, I encourage you to embrace the learning curve and stay persistent. The first few years can feel overwhelming, but they are critical for building a strong foundation in terms of developing and expanding a new attorney’s skill set. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek mentorship, and take on new challenges—even if they push you outside your comfort zone. Developing strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and mentors will serve you well in the long run and may make yourself more recession proof when hot areas emerge and decline in litigation. Most importantly, stay adaptable and open to opportunities for growth—it’s where you’ll find the most reward.

Randall provides practical legal guidance on issues and transactions involving company and third-party branding and marketing.  At HP, Randall protects thousands of corporate trademarks worldwide, helping to maintain the company’s brand reputation as a technology leader.  He supports business, marketing, legal, and corporate functional teams with naming, marketing, licensing and developing PCs, hardware, software and services.  Randall prosecutes, enforces and defends HP trademarks through administrative agencies and tribunal proceedings.  He protects HP copyright by conducting takedowns of infringing materials online and on social media, as well as cease and desist letters, litigation support, and more.  Randall helps prevent the unlicensed use of HP’s brand in the unauthorized sale of HP products.  He also assists customer support teams with preventing phony IT services that take advantage of unsuspecting consumers. 

As a skilled negotiator, Randall has secured HP sponsorships and partnerships with athletes, NASCAR and Formula 1 teams, digital art ambassadors, gamers and influencers.  Randall advocates for the company’s responsible use of generative AI, counseling product and marketing teams on the legal implications of such use.  He offers creative solutions for the sale and promotion of technology under FTC and state advertising and consumer protection laws on automatic subscription renewals, “free” and “trial” promotions, and varying state and international rules for contests and sweepstakes.

Randall supports the recruitment and retention of Black lawyers.  He helps lead HP’s diverse 1L summer associate program and is actively involved with choosing and mentoring students.  Randall serves on the diversity outreach subcommittee of Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), advocating for diverse student interest in intellectual property law careers.  Randall is a member of HP’s Black employee business resource group, recently serving as communication chair. 

Before joining HP in 2019, Randall was a trademark associate at Fenwick & West LLP and, before Fenwick, an IP and litigation associate at Fox Rothschild LLP.

What advice would you offer to new attorneys interested in your field?

Generally, aspiring lawyers should recognize that they can write their own stories, chart their own paths, and forge their own legal careers.  Moving from one legal field to another or starting a completely new practice at a firm or law office is common, and sometimes encouraged, depending on the organization.  Young attorneys shouldn’t be afraid to voice their desire to transition to an interesting or novel area of the law early on.

For IP law and trademark law specifically, a technical or science background isn’t required.  What’s helpful is thinking about trademark law practice in law school and how you can start that type of work as a student, either via internship, law school clinic, pro bono, or other means.  Having relationships with professors, lawyers, legal professionals and other mentors/sponsors is invaluable, especially those familiar with IP law.

Farah Cook concentrates her practice on intellectual property and technology-focused commercial agreements, marketing technology arrangements, advertising technology, licensing of intellectual property, strategic alliances, content distribution, and SaaS products. Farah has represented clients in various industries in the drafting and negotiation of a range of technology, commercial and advertising agreements, including traditional licensing, data use and licensing agreements, advertising technology agreements, software development and hosting agreements, reseller agreements, website co-branding agreements, website development agreements, and vendor procurement agreements. Further, she has worked on acquisitions and diligence projects, with a particular focus on analyzing IP and privacy issues, commercial contracts, and content provider agreements. Farah’s combination of in-house and big law firm experience, as well as her broad practice, gives her the ability to creatively and efficiently identify, understand and navigate issues in technology, commercial and marketing matters. Farah was recognized in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 by The Best Lawyers in America® for IT Outsourcing Law. She was also named “Atlanta Lawyer of the Year” in 2023 for IT Outsourcing Law by The Best Lawyers in America®. What advice would you offer to new attorneys interested in your field?

The best advice I would offer new attorneys is to stick with it and stay in the practice. At my level, I see so few women and diverse attorneys who practice in my field; however, this area of the law is fun, exciting, and constantly changing, so there are always opportunities for growth. Each year my practice changes or grows in a new direction so that it never becomes stale. The early years as a new attorney can be very challenging, however, I believe that if young attorneys will stay in the practice, seek growth opportunities, and look for areas in which they can make an impact, they will find so much reward in their work.

Kadiatou is also known for her work in private equity and venture capital related transactions, representing institutional and private investors, and companies. She is also a trusted partner to international clients setting up projects in Canada through acquisitions or organic implementation. 

Kadiatou is recognized in Best Lawyers in CanadaTM for her work in Mergers and Acquisitions Law, and in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for Corporate and Commercial Law. What advice would you offer to new attorneys interested in your field?

Embrace the learning curve in the beginning of your career with passion and enthusiasm. Focus on developing your skills. Every file and transaction contributes to your journey in affirming your choice for the practice of law and shaping your career path. Recognize and stay close with allies that will share knowledge and guidance on both challenges and opportunities. Finally, cultivate your network as early as possible. Keep in touch with them, grow with them, and be generous to them.

What advice would you offer to new attorneys interested in your field?

For those interested in doing corporate commercial or transactional work, I would suggest getting as much hands on experience as you can. Be involved at every step of a transaction, including due diligence.  Each stage of a deal is critical to the success of the transaction, so being well versed in each stage is important. 

I also recommend honing your communication skills. Corporate clients expect clear, timely, and actionable advice.  Develop the ability to distill complex legal issues into concise recommendations that clients can easily understand.

And lastly, be proactive about your professional development. Ask the senior lawyer on the file if you can join client calls and meetings.  Seek feedback on your work.  Attend seminars when you can.  Taking ownership of your learning will position you well for offering excellent legal services to clients.

Andrew is Co-Leader of the firm’s National Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Group and Vice-Chair of the Business Law Department and Leader of the Technology Law Group for the Ontario region. His practice encompasses numerous aspects of corporate and commercial law, with a particular emphasis on the technology sector and technology related matters.  Andrew represents large and small technology providers and technology users in a wide range of industries, including financial services, healthcare, real estate, manufacturing and electronics, as well as government agencies and broader public sector clients.  

Andrew routinely assists with establishing, growing and exiting technology-driven businesses, while helping organizations navigate corporate/commercial and technology-related operational, transactional, governance and compliance issues.  In addition to buying and selling technology businesses, Andrew’s in-depth knowledge is regularly sought by technology providers and technology users on the development, protection and commercialization of technology products and services, including complex technology outsourcings and system acquisitions, implementations and hosting arrangements.  He also provides key insights into the Canadian legislative and regulatory regimes related to information technology, e-commerce, consumer protection, data protection, cyber security, anti-spam, artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.

What advice would you offer to new attorneys interested in your field?

Technology moves quickly.  Staying abreast of the latest trends is challenging but will be a critical part of establishing credibility and positioning yourself to help clients effectively navigate the space, often in an environment where the law is struggling to keep pace.  Companies of all types increasingly rely on technology to drive operations, innovation and competitive advantage.  You will play an important role in helping clients to identify, contextualize and manage risk in an area that plays a critical role in their current and future success.  Combining expertise with practical business-oriented advice will be key.  Creativity and adaptability will be par for course.   Understanding and bridging gaps between technical, business and legal considerations will be essential.  Being involved in a rapidly evolving field will be exciting and rewarding.
