Why did you decide to become a NBA-CLS sponsor?

The National Bar Association, the largest and oldest bar association of Black attorneys and judges in the United States, was organized to give Black attorneys a place of belonging when the American Bar Association and many state and city bar associations did not. Seyfarth is proud to be a longstanding partner and sponsor of the NBA and NBA-CLS. We join the organization in its critical work of connecting NBA members in business practice with in-house attorneys for the advancement of Black attorneys in the profession, a goal Seyfarth shares.

At Seyfarth, we take a strategic approach to strengthen the diversity of our workforce and cultivate inclusion. We drive our efforts through tangible action, continuous improvement, and constant learning.

Our innovative programs help grow our population of attorneys from underrepresented groups, and advance their careers. Launched in 2016, our Rooney Presumption was a first-of-its-kind policy that boosted our recruitment of attorneys from underrepresented groups, and led to our groundbreaking work with Diversity Lab on the Mansfield Rule. We have been Mansfield certified since 2018, most recently achieving 3.0 certification in 2020. Additionally, our Triad Mentoring Program blends professional development, skill building, mentoring, and sponsorship to help us retain our attorneys from underrepresented groups, giving them the support, mentorship, and championship they need. Another firm program, Seyfarth Life, ensures that Seyfarth personnel—including attorneys from underrepresented groups—can reach their highest levels of performance and career satisfaction.

These initiatives build on the foundation that earned us a Thomas L. Sager Award from the MCCA, and honors from organizations including the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, Women in Law Empowerment Forum, and Working Mother magazine.

Seyfarth also partners with the communities where we live and work, and with our clients on advancing inclusion and diversity in the legal profession. We support a number of national organizations, as well as regional and local organizations in our offices.
