Description of field of expertise

Nicole Singh is a partner in Fasken’s labour, employment, and human rights practice group. She regularly advises public and private sector employers on labour disputes, grievance arbitrations, human rights and accommodation, employment standards, employment contracts and terminations, collective agreement interpretation, and wrongful dismissals. Nicole has represented clients before arbitrators, courts, the Ontario Labour Relations Board and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. She also advises employers on issues arising from corporate restructurings and mergers and acquisitions.

Nicole regularly acts as an external investigator for workplace investigations. Her experience includes investigating allegations of sexual harassment, discrimination, harassment, racial profiling, bullying, and employee misconduct, including matters involving senior leadership.

Nicole has specialized experience in both the health care and professional services sectors. She spent over a year at a large acute care hospital where she managed the hospital’s labour and employment litigation, and provided day-to-day legal advice to the hospital’s human resources department. She also spent eight months working as employment counsel within the Office of the General Counsel of a large professional services firm where she advised on employment matters and helped manage the firm’s employment litigation.

Nicole is passionate about diversity and inclusion in the workplace. She regularly advises clients on achieving a more diverse workforce and eliminating systemic barriers. Nicole is a member of Fasken’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

 

What advice would you offer to new attorneys interested in your field?

Nicole encourages young lawyers interested in labour and employment law to view the practice as a tangible way to become a trusted advisor to corporations, and to proactively and positively shape the workplace.
