Onyi Obah
Associate – Fasken
Description of field of expertise
Onyi is an associate in Fasken’s Toronto office, where she maintains a broad corporate and securities law practice with a focus on capital markets, investment funds, and public M&A. She is a trusted advisor to public companies on financings, M&A, corporate governance and stock exchange matters, as well as continuous disclosure and other securities law obligations.
Onyi’s investment fund practice focuses on mutual funds and exchange traded funds, and involves the preparation and renewal of prospectuses, obtaining exemptive relief from securities regulators, and navigating complex regulatory compliance obligations. Onyi provides guidance on new fund product structuring and launches, private-to-public fund transitions, and the development and implementation of governance frameworks.
Prior to joining Fasken, Onyi held in-house roles with investment fund managers, where she was involved in the preparation of regulatory filings, product launches, and providing guidance on day-to-day compliance matters.
“The interesting part of these practices is how structure, regulation and timing interact,” says Onyi. “Understanding that dynamic, together with commercial judgement, responsiveness and awareness of context, is what I find moves complex projects across the finish line.”
