Prior to becoming an attorney, Kim was employed by a global insurance carrier, working with human resource and risk managers as a workers’ compensation insurance adjuster. As an insurance adjuster, she oversaw the litigation of high-compensable matters, and she forecasted claim exposures to ensure matters were properly valuated and efficiently resolved. In addition, she served as a union shop steward in both government and private sectors. Her prior work experience has allowed Kim to draw from a wealth of knowledge to provide a foundation for her service as a strong and zealous advocate for management clients.

Advice to New Attorneys in Your Field of Expertise

Draw on your personal experiences and non-legal professional network to better understand business priorities and talent strategies. Being the best advocate requires far more than just understanding the law. Success comes from understanding the goals, challenges and perspectives of the stakeholders you advise and knowing how to communicate with them in meaningful ways. It’s also important to develop strong partnerships with clients so you can gain insights into their objectives in order to deliver practical, strategic guidance that helps them achieve their goals.

Final Thoughts...

Don’t be afraid to be your authentic self as a legal professional. We are not monoliths in our backgrounds, experiences, or ways of thinking, and those different perspectives are a strength to how we practice law. True problem-solving requires seeing the full picture, and that is only possible when diverse viewpoints are welcomed and valued.
